Blessings in a Backpack Update

Saturday, November 6th, 2010

Letters have gone out to families eligible for this program and we are awaiting the count from Liberty to know how many we will be feeding beginning right after the Christmas vacation.

Watch for chances to ‘bless a backpack’ by adopting children at Liberty at our services in November.

We are in the planning stages of adopting Liberty School for the Blessings in a Backpack Program in which school children who receive free breakfasts/lunches during the school week are sent home each Friday with a backpack of non-perishable food to make sure they are kept fed and nourished over the weekend and able to return on Monday ready to learn.

Blessings in a Backpack for Liberty School

Tuesday, October 5th, 2010

We are in the planning stages of adopting Liberty School for the Blessings in a Backpack Program in which school children who receive free breakfasts/lunches during the school week are sent home each Friday with a backpack of non-perishable food to make sure they are kept fed and nourished over the weekend and able to return on Monday ready to learn.

Blessings in a Backpack arranges for the food delivery on a discounted basis through the Kentucky Harvest/Dare to Care program and our responsibility would be to fund the program and stuff the backpacks at the school each week. $80 feeds one child for a school year.

Be in prayer for this program as we discuss funding and logistics and coordinate with our sister church at Covenant UMC which has adopted LaGrange Elementary to truly serve our neighborhood.
